Close Relationships Influence Moral Decisions
Keira wanted to have children, but doctors told her she was unable to conceive. You can imagine how surprised she was, then, to find out she was pregnant! She and her boyfriend began attending our prenatal classes.
However, her boyfriend was working through a gambling addiction. He had promised to stop going to the casinos, and they were making good strides in their relationship. Unfortunately, he decided to take a job at a local gambling establishment, and she watched their finances dwindle—again.
One day, Keira came into class in tears. Her boyfriend told her he wasn’t coming to the lessons anymore. She thought about quitting classes, too. After Keira had poured out her anguished feelings, our advocate asked, “Would you like to pray together about these things?”
They spent quite a bit of time together in prayer, which brought Keira peace. She said, “I really don’t have anyone else in my life I can share these things with. Thank you for listening and praying with me.”
In the weeks that followed, Keira’s boyfriend started attending classes with her again! We were glad to see him; we could see how much his presence there meant to her.
I recently heard Roland Warren, president of Care Net, say, “Our most intimate relationships shape our moral decisions.” We saw that with Keira. Her boyfriend’s steps nearly influenced her to stop seeking valuable motherhood knowledge and to forsake much-needed, free baby supplies.
In Christ, we desire to build strong, close relationships with our clients that reflect His heart of LIFE for them and their babies.
I pray this for all of us, friends, from 1 Thessalonians 3:12-13: Lord, please make us abound in love for one another…as we look forward to Your return.
