A New Dad Finds Family
Aaron, a new father, had been coming to Align’s free parenting classes. He connected with his client advocate right away, and he shared some concerns that weighed heavily on his heart.
Aaron had been doing his best to prepare for fatherhood, but he was scared. Becoming a parent is a big responsibility. What if things didn’t work out? What if he couldn’t measure up?
Finding a Circle of Support
Aaron’s advocate recommended that he seek out a supportive church community that could help him in his new phase of life, but for Aaron, that idea was complicated too. He had grown up in church, and a difficult experience had left him feeling burned, reluctant to try again.
The advocate offered Aaron reassurance: God, the perfect, loving Father, would help Aaron become the kind of involved, caring, patient dad he longed to be. But parenthood is a difficult road to walk alone. Aaron would need ongoing help to persevere when things became challenging. He would need a circle of support.
Finally convinced, Aaron replied, “Give me a list of churches to try!”
Overcoming Past Hurts
Aaron chose a church off the advocate’s list and started attending. Aaron’s girlfriend, who preferred to practice her own spirituality at home, didn’t come along at first, but Aaron’s advocate encouraged him not to give up. Aaron kept sharing with her about what he was learning.
Time passed, and God’s word did not return void!
Aaron and his girlfriend were recently married and welcomed a sweet baby boy into their family. They are looking for a church they can join together—especially one with a thriving men’s group, so that Aaron can continue to grow as a man, a husband, and a father in the company of other men who love Jesus.
