Helping Hands

Helping Hands

Last week, I was one of many people blazing the elements to dig out my driveway and sidewalk. It was a daunting job, made even more difficult by continuing precipitation. The more I shoveled, the more snow seemed to spill back into the path. My shoulders ached and my feet were cold. I was about to give up, but some neighbors came to my assistance. Working together, we were able to clear the snow in record time.  What seemed impossible became doable with the help of friends!

This reminds me of the difficult situations many clients face. These precious people are buried under the weight of fear and uncertainty.

Lacey was one such client. She had just lost her job, and her marriage was strained. Then, right before her parenting class she got a call that her toddler had an incident at daycare, and her other child had a fever. Each crisis seemed insurmountable.

As soon as she stepped into our waiting room, she burst into tears. Between sobs, she poured out her story to the secretary, her client advocate, and the center director. Her advocate suggested prayer, which Lacey accepted, and everyone joined in.

After the prayer, the director gave her a gift card to a local grocery store. Lacey sighed with relief as the weight of her stress lifted. What a difference friends make!

Galatians 6:2 says, “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.”

If you are feeling led to encourage others, reach out to a local ministry or non-profit near you. They could surely use more helping hands!
