Mercy Follows Repentance

Mercy Follows Repentance

Anita is a young Christian mom of two small boys. She has been taking our parenting classes and recently confided in her advocate that she’s really been struggling with negative, anxious thoughts. She said, “I pray about them, but it hasn’t helped. I haven’t been living a good Christian life, though…”

Her advocate gently talked with her about repentance, what repentance means and how important it is. Anita allowed her advocate to guide her through a prayer of repentance and rededication of her life back to Jesus. Anita seemed deeply moved by the prayer and resolved to go back to church.

At her next appointment, Anita was excited to tell us that not only did she go back to church, but she also took her boys to Sunday School! They loved it so much and asked her every day the following week if they could go back to Sunday School that day. She had to explain to them that Sunday School only happens on Sundays.

Proverbs 28:13 says, “Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.” Anita recognized that something was not right in her life. She confessed her sins, turned from them, and God’s mercy abounded.

The same is true for you and me, friends. How sweet it is to experience God’s mercy and the blessing of His community in the wake of our failure and repentance!
