Soak Time
Sometimes it takes time for truth to sink in and be embraced. That’s one reason why we encourage clients facing an unintended pregnancy to slow down and take their time in deciding whether they will parent their baby, make an adoption plan, or choose abortion. When a young mom and dad are initially faced with the truth of being pregnant, all of what that means—both the hard AND the beautiful—rarely sinks in right away. Time is key.
Our client Anastasia comes to mind. Anastasia is a 22-year-old, married Russian woman. She came in for a pregnancy test. She didn’t speak English, so her husband translated for her. She was thinking about abortion because of their life circumstances. We encouraged her to take her time and gather as much truthful information about the pregnancy as she could before making her decision.
She was 10 weeks pregnant at the time, and we offered her an ultrasound for the following week. Conflicted as she was, Anastasia acknowledged her baby was a little person. She and her husband thought a lot about that little person in the days that followed.
When they came back for the ultrasound, Anastasia immediately asked, “Is there just one baby in there?” and, “May I please see the heart?”
Her husband was surprised at how big the baby was already and didn’t know the baby would be moving! We believe truth about their baby’s life soaked into their hearts with time and led them to choose life for their child.
Jesus prayed this for us in John 17:17: “Sanctify them in your truth; your word is truth.” There’s a time element to this prayer… a changing of us over time as we immerse ourselves in the Word of God, which is Jesus. We thank God for His gift of His Son – His truth – to us all, and for the time He has given us to soak up His truth and make holy decisions for life.
