The Gift of Motherhood
Evelyn was struggling with addiction and eventually lost custody of her small children. She was a Christian but had fallen away from the church. However, she got reconnected with a wonderful congregation locally. They prayed and prayed for God to help her get healthy physically, and for her to grow in her parenting skills. They referred Evelyn to us for parenting classes.
It was our honor to help her. Evelyn’s tangible parenting skills were lacking—in part because her own mom and dad had not been positive role models for her. So, it was really cool to see her tackle topics like “What does it mean to nurture your children, and how do you do it?” and “How do you teach your children to respect people and things in a way that leads to them feeling secure rather than fearful?”
Evelyn worked really hard at her lessons. Her church worked really hard at praying for her and encouraging her. They all recognized the importance of Jesus in her daily process. And God answered. Evelyn was reunited with her children, and they are all living a healthier, happier life.
We praise God for His kindness in not only helping women give birth to their children, but also helping them emulate His heart for mothering them. It’s a beautiful thing to behold. Isaiah 66:13 says, “As a mother comforts her child, so I will comfort you.” Please join us in praying for all our young moms—that they would see that God has given them the GIFT of motherhood. And, even more so, the gift of Himself.
