His Truth Transforms
A young woman named Ellie visited us recently. Her mom had passed away a few weeks prior, and Ellie… missing her mom, while trying to parent her toddler at home, plus dealing with the hormone changes that come with pregnancy… she was having a rough time of it. She needed support, and a friend told her about Align.
During her intake, Ellie shared that her mom had turned her life over to Jesus several years ago and had been trying to talk to her about faith. Ellie said, “My mom bought me journals and wanted to have conversations about Jesus, but the way she treated me made me not want to listen to her.”
Our director asked Ellie if they could talk about John 3:16… especially the relational part of it – “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Ellie sat still and listened. It was as though in that moment the Holy Spirit shifted her focus from her mom’s human faults to God’s divine goodness. The things her mom tried to tell her—coupled with what God said in this verse—it was the gospel. She heard it. It finally started to make sense. And she believed.
Our director prayed with her, and Ellie embraced Jesus as her savior that day. She asked for a Bible for herself and wondered if we had a children’s Bible she could read to her toddler. We were delighted to give her both!
Friends, God can bring great good out of hard times in our lives. We see it over and over at our centers: When we reach out for support, when we have someone to listen without judgment, when we slow down and really hear what He says in scripture… He speaks, and His truth transforms our lives.
