Fasting Season
Hi, I’m Leah McKelvey, the Church Relations Associate for Align Life Ministries.
The other day I was enjoying a fluffy white donut in celebration of Fasnacht Day, which is a Pennsylvania Dutch holiday designed to use up all the lard, sugar, and butter, the day before Lent.
Lent is a time of deep spiritual reflection where the participant gives something up to gain a deeper understanding of the agonizing journey Jesus made to the cross, leading up to appreciating the glory of the Resurrection on Easter Sunday. Although the season is difficult, it leads to something beautiful and profound.
This reminds me of Katelyn and Alex, a young couple who recently came to our center. They explained that they always wanted kids, but this wasn’t a good time for them. When Katelyn first found out she was pregnant, they were undecided and didn’t know what to do. It was a daunting situation.
But after seeing their baby on the ultrasound, the couple knew that they were blessed with a precious gift. Even though they were in a difficult season, they stated, “We’re going for it!”
1 Peter 5:10 says “…the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.”
