He Told Me Everything I’ve Ever Done
I was at a church recently with an Align table display and met a woman who had been part of our post-abortion Bible study group last year. She said, “I just want to say thank you for having those studies. Jesus truly healed me through them! I didn’t think such freedom was possible for someone like me.
I wonder if her experience was kind of like that of the woman Jesus met at the well in Samaria. After Jesus talked with her, that woman, according to John 4:28-29, “went away into the town and said to the people, “Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did.”
That woman had done some pretty bad things, and she may have felt awful about doing them. But, if Jesus told her “all” that she ever did, that included him telling her about the bad things she had done, too. His way of saying them must have been so truthful, so pure, so loving – that it didn’t make her want to run from Him and hide. Instead, it seemed to fill her with hope, believing in His power to help her and running TO people to tell them about Him!
Jesus knows what a post-abortive person has done. Instead of meeting her at a well, though, nowadays He meets her in places like our post-abortion Bible study and tells her what she’s done in a way that is truthful, forgiving, and dispelling of shame. He tells her what is true about her and what is true about Him. And He encourages her to believe His words, live out their reality, and trust in His love.
It’s that kind of amazing love that inspires women like the one I met at the table display to tell others about Jesus and the freedom they found in Him.
