Present Day Adoption

Present Day Adoption

While there are three clear options women have when facing an unintended pregnancy, adoption is one that many women feel is impossible.  “I could never give my baby away” is a very real and heartbreaking statement- especially for the woman who feels that parenting is simply not an option for her.

The truth is…all three options—parenting, adoption, and abortion—come with hardships.  It’s important for us to stay current on the facts associated with each one, because domestic infant adoption looks a lot different now than it did 30 years ago.  So, for today and over the next few weeks, we’re going to look at some common misconceptions expectant moms may have about adoption.

First, the pregnant mom might think, “If I give my baby up, that means I don’t love him enough.” Could it be, though, that if she decides to place her baby with an adoptive family, it’s not because she doesn’t love him enough, but because she has an ABUNDANCE of love for him. She cares for her baby so much that she’s willing to go through the heartbreak of placing her child into another woman’s arms. That kind of love is unmeasurable and sacrificial. It is a selfless, courageous choice that deserves an incredible amount of respect.

Ephesians 1:5 says, “He predestined us to adoption as sons and daughters through Christ Jesus to Himself.” The concept of adoption was invented by God with all of us in mind, including this pregnant mother. Her sacrificial love for her child echoes God’s sacrificial love for her.  She can rightfully trust Him with her baby’s life—and with her own life, too. We have all been created for Christ.
