There’s A Baby In There

There’s A Baby In There

One of our pregnant clients and her boyfriend have a toddler daughter and they brought her along to their ultrasound appointment. The little girl was a delight! AND – she repeated everything she heard. At one point during the scan, the dad said, ‘There’s a baby in there!”  That’s all it took. The little girl heard it, and she was smitten! From that point on, she kept saying, “There’s a baby in there!”  It was adorable. And oh…so…true.

Tomorrow is the first Sunday in Advent, and this story reminds me of when Mary was pregnant with Jesus, and she went to visit her cousin Elizabeth, who was pregnant with John the Baptist. In Luke Chapter 1, Elizabeth says to Mary, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb…For behold, when the sound of your greeting came to my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy.”

Tiny, preborn baby John the Baptist leaped for joy when Mary and little preborn Jesus drew near.  There were two precious mothers: Mary and Elizabeth. And, there were babies in there. One, a messenger sent by God, to prepare the way for the Lord. And the Other – the Lord Himself… our Savior, Jesus Christ.

The truth, which God ordains from heaven, cannot be changed. When a woman becomes pregnant, she is a mother and there is a baby. Both are dearly loved by God, and both have a divine purpose in God’s sovereign plan. We have all been Created for Him.
