“It Actually Feels Like a Blessing to Me Now”

“My baby isn’t a year old yet, and I can’t handle another one—my boyfriend just left me.” Savannah let out a deep breath and held her head in her hands.

“I hope I’m not too far along to take the abortion pill. My friend said it’s not really a baby yet if I’m only a few weeks pregnant.”

We talked with Savannah about her options and how we could walk alongside her. She readily agreed to an ultrasound, wanting to know how many weeks pregnant she was.

As the shape of the baby appeared on the ultrasound monitor—little arms and legs wiggling—Savannah’s mouth dropped open in disbelief.

“It’s a whole baby in there!” she cried. She was quiet throughout the rest of the ultrasound.

A faint smile crept across her face.

As we talked with her afterward, Savannah said, “I can’t have an abortion after seeing all of that. I had no idea it was a fully formed little baby. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but it actually feels like a blessing to me now.”

We shared Psalm 23 with Savannah—how when we walk through shadowy circumstances, Jesus is with us and His light directs our paths. Savannah drank it all in and was grateful when we offered to pray with her.

Talk about a transformation! In just 45 minutes, Savannah went from wanting to end her pregnancy to embracing the blessing of a new life.

That’s the power of God’s Spirit and the impact of ultrasound to showcase His glory through precious images of living, moving preborn babies.
