Called to Freedom
Happy birthday, America! Our country is 250 years old today, and it’s great to see so many American flags adorning local homes and businesses this year.
The US flag is a symbol of the wonderful freedoms we enjoy as Americans—like freedom of speech and freedom of religion. The apostle Paul reveals something else about freedom through Galatians 5:13: we are called to freedom! The Greek word Paul uses there for freedom means “a God-given release, through a relationship with Jesus, from every form of spiritual bondage, that we might serve the Lord joyfully, willingly, and fruitfully.”
We’ve seen God call young parents we serve to freedom in Him. Take our client, Thalia, for example. Thalia did not have a job and was living in a small apartment with a relative. She had been dating a guy who, when he found out she was pregnant, encouraged her to get an abortion. Thalia came to us for help.
When we talked with her about her spiritual beliefs, she said, “God has not been in my life for a long time, and I don’t feel Him anymore.” Our director told Thalia about God’s faithfulness, grace, and deep love for her and then shared the gospel with her. Thalia felt peace and hope well up in her soul, and she smiled from ear to ear as she prayed to receive Jesus as her Lord and Savior.
Thalia’s ultrasound a few minutes later revealed a sweet, healthy baby, and Thalia’s bend toward abortion shifted toward parenting. She left with a few baby outfits in her bag from our baby boutique and a lightness of heart that stemmed from her new freedom in Jesus.
As we celebrate our Nation’s birthday and the freedoms we enjoy as its citizens, please join us in praying that many more abortion-vulnerable moms like Thalia will find freedom for life through a relationship with Jesus and choose life for their innocent preborn children!
