A Journey Redirected

I saw an interview on CBN news with Kathi Aultman, an OB/GYN doctor who stopped performing abortions after she trusted Jesus as her savior and the Lord began to transform her heart. She found it difficult to overcome the guilt she felt for doing so many abortions, so she turned to a Christian counselor for help.

There was one session in particular where she started crying and just could not stop. She said, “During that time, in my mind, I could see Jesus’s gown and His feet and I was at His feet crying and He said to me ‘are you more powerful than I am? Are you more important than I am? Are you stronger than I am that I can forgive you but you cannot forgive yourself?’ At that point I understood that He had forgiven me and that I needed to forgive myself and that was where I really had my healing.”

There are millions of individuals who have personally endured or have been involved with abortion in some way, and find themselves struggling with distressing thoughts and emotions surrounding those decisions. We need to remember that neither performing an abortion nor having an abortion are unforgiveable sins in God’s sight. The blood that Jesus shed on the cross in our place is powerful to save us and to cleanse us from ALL unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9b)
