A Place of Refuge
We often share stories of clients who are abortion-minded when they arrive, and through our services, by the grace of God, they experience a change of heart and mind, and decide to carry their babies to term.
We also serve clients who want to choose life for their child right from the start, but their family and friends are pressuring them to have an abortion. They come to us – not to gather information about their options, but rather to seek refuge, so to speak, from the “storm” they feel at home. Consider our client Tiffany, for example.
Tiffany called us and asked if there was anything we could do to help her. Her family and the father of her baby were urging her to have an abortion, but she didn’t want to do that. She felt very alone and was looking for support in her decision to carry.
We were glad to tell Tiffany how we could walk with her through her pregnancy. She signed up for our prenatal classes. She now meets weekly with one of our volunteer client advocates, who listens, encourages, and prays for Tiffany and her preborn baby on a regular basis. Tiffany also enrolled in a single moms Bible study in her community, where she’s experiencing additional care that is rooted in the love of Jesus and the truth of His word.
Tiffany’s situation at home might not change, but God is changing her. He’s giving her increased strength, provisions, and grace for her journey as well as comfort that comes from knowing she’s not facing this situation alone.
Isaiah 24:5 describes the Lord as a “… refuge for the needy in their distress; a shelter from the storm…” As we align with Jesus, we are able to be a place of peace and support for women like Tiffany and the children they carry. We’ve all been Created for Him.
