Beyond “Unavoidable”
Harper called and asked for information on abortion. We let her know we do not provide or refer for abortion, but we told her about the various services we have that could be of help to her. She accepted our offer of a pregnancy test and an ultrasound, and said she wanted to hear what options she had. Before she hung up she said, “I do not believe in abortion. But I just don’t know what else to do.” And there in a nutshell is what a number of our clients express: Abortion is not something they want. It just seems unavoidable.
By the grace of God, we know that abortion does not have to be unavoidable for Harper. It is not her only option. She has three options: parenting, adoption, and abortion. We will gently let her know this. We will let her know she has time to make her decision, and we’ll encourage her to consider as much truthful information as possible about each option before she makes her choice.
Behind the scenes, our prayer for Harper is this: Lord, we ask that you prepare this young woman’s heart for the truth we will be sharing with her. Father, as she sees her baby on the ultrasound screen, give her strength to see beyond her current circumstances and courage to make a life-giving choice for her child and herself.. Please help us serve her with kindness and compassion. Amen.
We don’t yet know what the outcome of Harper’s story will be. We have her best interests at heart, and we trust God’s goodness.
