It seems to be a pretty common tendency for people – when they’re facing really tough situations – to throw their heads back and look upwards with the thought “what am I going to do now?” or “why in the world is this happening to me?” Think about it. When you’ve faced a difficult time in your life, have you ever looked up to the sky in exasperation or desperation and thought “Why me?!” or “Someone please help me!?”
God knows we have this tendency, because He speaks of it in His Word.
One of my favorite passages in the Bible is Psalm 121. It begins with these words:
I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
We may lift our eyes upward for help, not really knowing why we do that or where help will come from. But the Bible is clear – our help comes from God… our enormous, all powerful, creative God.
Our clients need help, and they come to us to get it. But while it might seem like we are the ones helping them gather truthful information and sort through their options… while it seems like people provide the pregnancy tests and the ultrasounds, the parenting classes and the baby clothes…the truth of the matter is that it is God who is helping them. He’s simply using our hands, minds, feet and hearts to do it.
It’s encouraging to remember that whatever genuine help you may have received today – it came from God. He sees you. He knows you. And He really cares for you. We have all been Created for Him.
