Earnest, Life-Giving Counsel
Donna came to us for a pregnancy test. She was not on good terms with the father of the baby and did not want to be carrying his child. Her best friend Marta came with her for moral support.
Donna’s test was positive, and she began to wring her hands with worry. Before we could say a word, Marta turned to Donna said, “Donna. Listen to me. When I found out I was pregnant last year, I didn’t want to have the baby either. But I had an ultrasound, and when I saw that baby, I knew I could not go through with an abortion.
Marta went on to say, “I know you. You would never forgive yourself if you choose abortion. I will help you! I will take you to all of your doctor appointments.” Donna was still undecided, but Marta kept talking. “I didn’t know they had parenting classes here. I need them! We could take them together!” Donna breathed a sigh of relief and agreed to our offer of a free ultrasound. She said to Marta, “Who knows? Maybe my baby will be best friends with your baby, just like we are best friends.”
A few days later, Donna saw her baby through her ultrasound with us and she choose life for her child!
Proverbs 27:9 says, “…the sweetness of a friend comes from his earnest counsel.” We thank God over and over for Marta and how earnestly she encouraged Donna to pursue LIFE. Marta echoes what Jesus does for each one of us: He allows us to experience the sweetness of His friendship through His earnest, life-giving counsel.
