Here For You
One of my colleagues was talking with a young pregnant mom the other day. This pregnant mom is married. Both she and her husband are Christians, and they are bringing their baby into a stable family and home. The conversation went something like this:
The pregnant mom said, “Just a few weeks more to go! We are so excited to meet her, but I wish this child came with an instruction book! We feel pretty unprepared to be parents! Plus, formula is SO expensive – I’m not sure how we’ll afford that if the baby needs it…”
My colleague said, “You know, where I work at SVPS – we offer parenting classes at no charge. You’d be welcome to join them. And you can earn free formula as you go along.”
The pregnant mom replied, “Yeah, but aren’t their parenting classes just for people who are working through some kind of crisis pregnancy situation?”
My colleague said, “A good portion of our clients are people facing an unintended pregnancy, but we also have quite a few married couples just like you who are enrolled in our parenting classes, and they find them really helpful!” The pregnant mom had not realized this, and said she would talk with her husband about it. Maybe they’ll check us out!
Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” Equipping moms and dads to confidently parent their children is a significant part of what we do.
