Insights From Our Post-Abortion Ministry Director
In the past, clients we served through our post-abortion healing ministry were typically in their 40’s and older. They had their abortions decades ago, and had reached a point of wanting to surrender their abortion secret and experience relief from the guilt and shame they had been carrying for so many years. More recently, though, we’ve been noticing that more of our post-abortion clients are younger – in their 20’s and 30’s. Instead of having an abortion decades ago… they had it few months ago; maybe even a few weeks ago. I wondered why this trend was happening, and talked with Erin Brubaker, our Post-Abortion Ministry Services Director. She offered some interesting insights.
First, use of the abortion pill is increasing. Women are being told that having an abortion via the abortion pill is “kind of like having a really heavy, crampy period”, and that the process is “very similar to an early miscarriage.“ But from what Erin is seeing, women are not at all prepared for what actually happens to them physically. Add to that the realization that they are their own abortionist and their bedroom or bathroom is the facility… Erin says, “They are coming to us totally traumatized.”
At the same time, people nowadays seem to be aware of their own mental health status, and when they don’t feel “ok” mentally – they seek help. Our post-abortion services are free, and clients are finding us online, and being referred to us by others.
