Robin’s Abortion Story
Did you know that April is Abortion Recovery Awareness Month? Many women and men carry the hurt of a past abortion decision for years. But Jesus wants them to experience His healing power.
Our friend Robin kept her abortion a secret for 30 years. As a Christian, she knew abortion was a sin, and believed it was something you didn’t talk about. You see, in her young adult years, a series of events, including a betrayal of trust by one of her male friends, prompted Robin to make some poor life choices. In time, she found herself unexpectedly pregnant. On a cold, damp day, she went to an abortion clinic in Harrisburg and aborted her baby. She remembers leaving that clinic thinking, “I will take this secret to my grave.” But God had better plans.
Robin felt led to volunteer with us so she could help other women in similar situations. At the urging of one of our directors, she went through our Surrendering the Secret post-abortion Bible study, even though she was convinced she didn’t need it. But the Lord changed her life through that study!
Robin says, “I never realized how the abortion had negatively impacted every area of my life!” Through His word, God helped Robin see the lies she had been believing. He helped her deal with her anger and grieve what had happened. The truth of Jesus’ love and forgiveness toward her set Robin on a new path.
Isaiah 61:3 says, “For all who mourn in Israel, He will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair.”
Today, Robin helps other post-abortive women find healing, joy, and freedom in Jesus.
