Story Behind Their Story

Story Behind Their Story

Hi friends, it’s Lisa Hosler.

For many of our clients, there’s a story behind their story – meaning, what they share with us initially is just a portion of what’s going on in their lives.

Kind of like the woman at the well. When Jesus asked her to bring her husband, she said, “I have no husband.” And He said, “You’re right. You’ve had five husbands and the one you have now is not your husband.” He wasn’t looking to condemn her, but to save her.

Kayleigh was a bit like the woman at the well. But instead of husbands, she had a track record of homelessness and being in and out of prison. As a young mom, she desperately wanted to break that cycle.

Our director listened carefully to everything Kayleigh said. She prayed under her breath, “Lord, what is the story behind the story?”

Just then, Kayleigh opened up about an addictive behavior in her life.

“Aha, that’s it!” our director thought to herself. Kayleigh’s addiction was at the root of her problems.

She shared with Kayleigh how Jesus gave His life so she could be free, and led her through a series of supporting scriptures.

Kayleigh was all ears. She said, “I never saw the connection between my addiction and my other problems, but I can see it so clearly now. I feel like I have hope again–for the first time in a really long time.”

Jesus spoke words of life to the woman at the well, and it changed her life story.

Day by day, we speak words of life to young women and men, and Jesus is changing their life stories.
