The Wiser Walk
We recently met with a college student who was very afraid that she was pregnant. Her pregnancy test was negative, and although she breathed a tremendous sigh of relief, she didn’t jump up to leave. She seemed willing to talk with us a bit longer.
Our director gently shared truth with her about God’s gift of sexuality and His design for marriage. The client was quiet. We weren’t sure if anything we were saying was even helping her. We asked if we could pray for her, and she said yes. So, we did, and afterwards we noticed she was softly crying. We believe the Holy Spirit made himself known to her.
We felt led to tell her that God loves her and she is precious to Him… that He is a gentleman and will not force Himself on anyone. We let her know that if she invited Jesus in to her life, He has the power – through the Holy Spirit – to help her to live her life in a brand new way. We trust she left that appointment feeling His presence, and with the knowledge of what to do next – and we are praying for her.
It is not easy to live a life of sexual integrity before God, especially when we’re surrounded by media messages and earthly authorities that promote quite the opposite. But God does not leave us to fend for ourselves. We have His word and His spirit. His wisdom – as it says in James 3:17 – is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. And His way is perfect; (His Word) proves true… (see Psalm 18:30).
The Lord has led us to create lessons for young people to help them see their sexuality as a gift from God, and to teach them to steward it well. The lessons are based on the wisdom and ways of God found in Scripture, and are compiled into a series called Sexuality by Design.
