Jesus Paid Our Penalty
Our staff member met with a woman who had an abortion 10 years ago. The woman looked down at the floor as she spoke. She told my colleague about several disheartening things that have occurred since her abortion. Then, she said, “I feel the reason that I’m having these difficult experiences is – – God is punishing me for the abortion.”
My colleague looked up Romans 3:21-26, and read them: “21But now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the requirements of the law… 22We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. 23For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. 24Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.”
My teammate wanted this precious woman to see the truth – that it was Jesus who took the punishment that we definitely do deserve. *Our client was a believer, but was really struggling with guilt and shame. Even though she knew the Bible is true, she found it hard to believe these verses were true for her. My colleague continued reading…
“25For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood…26 …God did this to demonstrate his righteousness, for he himself is fair and just, and he makes sinners right in his sight when they believe in Jesus.”
We pray that this client opens up more of her life to Jesus, that this incredible gift of love becomes her reality. May you believe it as your reality, too. We have all been created for Christ.
