PA 2020 Abortion Statistics Report: 3.6% Increase

As Christians and as citizens, it’s important for us to be mindful of abortion data for our state. The Pennsylvania Department of Health recently released its abortion statistics report for 2020.

In 2020, there were 32,123 abortions performed in PA. That’s an increase of 3.6% – over 1,100 more abortions than the year before. It averages to nearly 618 babies aborted each week or 88 babies aborted per day.

Along with the increase in total abortions, the abortion pill accounted for more than half for the first time ever, with 51% of total abortions happening via chemical abortion.  This means women are receiving the abortion pill in the mail, taking them alone at home with no medical supervision, and left to fend for themselves.

We lament these realities. Lord, have mercy on us. Help us to remember that standing in stark contrast to this heavy abortion data is the brilliantly shining, powerful gospel of Jesus Christ and the amazing reality that each baby is formed in the image of God.

At Align, we are constantly adjusting our strategies for reaching women considering chemical and surgical abortions, and discerning how to most effectively encourage them to make an appointment at one of our locations.  And we are training advocates to boldly and winsomely introduce clients to Jesus.

Friends, abortion is not an insurmountable problem. Nor is it an unforgiveable sin. Abortion is a spiritual issue, and THE remedy for it is the gospel of Jesus Christ, which tells of the amazing love of God for us and the personal relationship He desires to have with each one of us through believing in His Son. As we hold out these truths to our clients, LIFE is the outcome.
