Parenting Points to God
One of our young mom clients was about to have her baby, and she stopped in to see us a few days before she was due. At one point, our director said to her, “When you have that baby, and the love rushes in – – just pause for a moment and think: That’s how God’s love is for you as His child. That rush of love you feel – that points to God’s love for you.”
The client seemed to take the words to heart. A few days later, she had her baby and called us to let us know. This time, our director asked her “How do you feel?” And the client said, “I LOVE my baby! I feel more connected to her than I thought I ever would be!” And our director replied, “And that’s how we believe God feels about you!! That, times a million!”
It’s was a joy to help this client see that how she feels about her baby in those moments is reflective of how God feels about her. Remember that verse from Luke 15:20 which says about a certain son, “…his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.” That’s an amazing picture of how God the Father feels about His children. And what’s more, He graciously gives us glimpses of His love for us through our own experiences of parent/child relationships.
There’s so much more to parenting than what we can see in the natural world. God is at work in the establishing of new parents and in the birth of their baby. He’s pointing us to Himself and to His Son, Jesus, and inviting us be in relationship with Them. We have all been Created for Him.
