We’ll Follow Him – We Have a Baby to Raise
Bella came to us last summer. She was pregnant and struggling with alcohol abuse. “I need to stop drinking for the sake of the baby,” she said.
We hoped she would come for prenatal classes, but after her initial appointment we didn’t hear from her for many months…
Until recently, when Bella walked into our center with a big smile, her newborn baby in her arms and her husband by her side! She said, “We’re here to sign up for parenting classes. We both know we need them.” Her husband nodded.
Our director welcomed them warmly and asked how Bella was doing. Bella looked at the floor and said, “Well, I’m still drinking.” Our director shared how much God loved her and how much He had helped her. Bella was all ears. Our director went on to share the gospel with her. She opened her Bible to read John 3:16 out loud, and as she did, Bella’s husband quoted the verse along with her. Bella looked at him and said, “How did you know that?!” He shrugged and said, “I dunno… “
That night, Bella gave her life to Jesus. And the next week they returned for their first parenting class. Our director asked Bella’s husband about quoting John 3:16 the week before. He shared that he’d been raised as a believer but had fallen away. By the end of the session, HE recommitted his life to the Lord. He looked at Bella in earnest and said, “No more alcohol for us. We have a baby to raise, and we’re going to follow Jesus now.”
We are so excited for this young family! In John 8:12, Jesus promises that “Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
